Since time immemorial, pearls have symbolised love, happiness and good fortune. To the Greek the word means "perfect purity" and to the Romans "sweetness and pleasure". Born deep within an oyster the mysterious pearl has aroused Man's curiosity and admiration. "Unio" the latin word for pearl literally means "unique" attesting to the fact that no two pearls are identical. Among the large varieties of pearl producing oyster species the most renowned is the Pinctada Margaritifera of French Polynesia. It's ability to produce black pearls of huge dimensions has led it to be called the "Mother - of - Pearl" The woman and the pearl - the one and the other seem to be inseparable. They have so many traits in common: mystery, charm, smoothness and sensuality. The one created, no doubt, for the other to wear, each enhances the other's natural beauty.
